Through a unique partnership with Rush University, Jacksonville University offers a Master of Science in Respiratory Care (MSRC) program to help prepare you for a successful career as an advanced respiratory care practitioner. Our Respiratory Care program, which is provisionally accredited through the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC), is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills they will need to prevent, identify, and treat acute or chronic cardiopulmonary dysfunction in diverse patient populations.

  • Maintains an average 1:11 faculty-student ratio that allows students the individualized attention they deserve
  • Qualifies graduates for national board examinations as well as state licensure

The goal of our program is to prepare graduates with demonstrated competence in the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective learning domains of respiratory care practice as performed by registered respiratory therapists (RRTs). We are preparing future leaders of the industry by including curricular content with objectives related to the acquisition of skills in management, education, research and advanced clinical practice - which may include an area of clinical specialization.

Ready for Your Career Change?

Our MSRC program is designed to help non-respiratory care students dive into the field of respiratory therapy. Regardless of your undergraduate background, if you have completed the required prerequisite courses with a "C" grade or higher (see Admissions Requirements), you could gain admission to this program and begin working toward your new career.

Our program aspires to help students refine their leadership skills as they work through the curriculum. Students will learn the foundational skills needed to take on new and exciting leadership roles in clinical practice, their area of specialty, research, and education. 

Curriculum

To obtain a Master of Science in Respiratory Care, each student will complete 91 credit hours (29 credit hours are earned from the required prerequisite courses of their undergraduate degree). 

Students will complete the MS program in two years, full-time at JU's Jacksonville location. In addition to their academic courses, credits include one clinical seminar, three research projects, and four clinical practices (over 1000 hours).

ELIGIBILITY & REQUIREMENTSAdmissions Requirements

Applications are open for the Fall 2023 term!

  • Completion of a bachelor's degree with a minimum overall GPA of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale
    • Students with a minimum GPA of 2.5 will be considered if cumulative science courses were greater than a 2.7 GPA
  • Completed JU Application and submission of official transcripts for all college course work completed
  • A one-way recorded virtual interview. This can be done from anywhere! The questions will be presented to you at the time of recording. You will have 10 minutes to respond to five questions. This component is found within the online application; you will not receive a separate link.
  • A letter of recommendation
  • Statement of Intent
  • Completion of the following professional prerequisite courses with a grade of "C" or better:
    • Mathematics (College Algebra or higher)
    • Chemistry (one course with lab preferred)
    • Human Anatomy (one course)
    • Human Physiology (one course)
    • Microbiology (one course with lab preferred)
    • Physics (One course with lab preferred)
    • Psychology (one course)
    • Statistics (one course)

Our state-of-the art Healthcare Simulation Center (HSC) provides learners with invaluable experiential learning. The HSC provides a safe and conducive educational environment that utilizes simulation to create a realistic learning experience for learners. This includes the incorporation of culturally diverse interpersonal communication skills, teamwork, clinical assessment, and skill proficiency.
