Job Summary

The executive director of the Jacksonville University Honors Program is an inaugural position that provides innovative strategic vision, dynamic classroom engagement and thoughtful programmatic leadership and expertise; financial oversight; and administrative, day-to-day supervision and management of the Cost Honors Program and pedagogy. The executive director will lead, inspire and innovate intellectual learning and facilitate global thought provoking programming, work collaboratively with the JU community among an array of on- and off-campus partners, including administrators, faculty, staff, and students to shape continued implementation of a shared strategic vision for the program. With intention, the co- director will foster an inclusive environment for a diverse group of students, ensuring that students of all backgrounds and identities can be supported and successful in the Cost Honors Program and across campus.

 

The executive director oversees the Cost Honors Program curricular and co-curricular education, teaching, and learning experience. The executive director will create and sustain the Honors Program Steering Committee and Honors Program Curriculum Committee to ensure consistent delivery of best practices of nationally top-ranked Honors programs. This position will establish and ensure the highest standards of curricular and co-curricular experiences and will establish and regularly report results of outcomes assessments at the program and course levels.

The executive director will be highly engaged with national Honors program organizations and will research and report on the most effective practices and emerging trends in Honors education and research. The executive director will participate in and encourage faculty and staff to participate in peer-reviewed publications and presentations to share successes and best practices with other Honors programs.

 

The successful candidate will be a highly collaborative, innovative, strategic thinkers who can cultivate and develop initiatives that challenge, grow, and support the highly talented students in the Cost Honors Program. The executive director must be student-centered and fully invested in student wellness and knowledgeable of the unique needs of high-achieving students with various learning styles who are admitted to this program, anticipating their leadership roles in society, and expecting their full participation in the Dolphin  Community as leaders among their fellow undergraduate students. 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervise student employees for the Office of Student Leadership & Development, including management of schedules/coverage, assignment of projects and tasks, creating opportunities for personal and professional growth, and providing ongoing feedback that is positive, constructive, and centered in student learning and development.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Innovates and coordinates the college’s strategic planning process including the planning, implementation and evaluation of the Cost College Strategic Plan and related initiatives
    Collaborates with all colleges to establish priorities among strategic initiatives as determined by the College and/or Institutes.
  • Collaborates with Honors program stakeholders, including the Honors Steering Committee, the Faculty Senate, and others, to develop, review, and revise honors curriculum, instructional practices, outcomes assessment, and co-curricular learning activities.
  • Plan, implement, and assess student experiential learning and engagement opportunities that promote leadership, service, career and global readiness, and sense of belonging
  • Collects, analyzes, and reports data regarding honors students’ success, retention, service-learning hours, graduation, and transfer rates as well as other areas related to academic and co-curricular engagement.
  • Serves as advisor for Phi-Theta Kappa Honors Society, including member recruitment, meeting participation, induction ceremony, leadership development of officers and members, participation at national and regional conferences, facilitation of scholarships, and oversight of administrative and budgetary processes.
  • Develop and implement professional growth and development programming.
  • Plan, develop, and implement Honors recruitment, application, and retention initiatives.
    Manages appropriate resource allocation for the planning and implementation phases and assess progress continuously to monitor implementations schedules and issue progress reports for planning, assessment and accreditation.
    Oversees internal functions related to environmental scanning, establishment/evaluation of key performance indicators, academic program review, and unit-level assessment.
  • Ensures data and information are available to meet the decision-making needs of the College at all levels
    Coordinates college-wide surveys including development, administration, analysis and the dissemination of results.
  • Directs the accreditation processes to include reaffirmation and substantive changes.

Education, Certificates, Licenses, & Experience

  • Terminal degree: Ph.D. or Doctorate degree is required upon hire

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, and reach.
  • Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and other business machines.
  • Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person and by phone.
